At Iberapa we are proud and excited to develop this project, which is a new switch-disconnector under metal enclosure for use in medium voltage distribution network switchgear, eliminating the use of SF6 gas. This new design with electrical isolation systems, actuating mechanisms and innovative components will allow the switch to operate with low environmental impact technologies to promote the energy transition and reduce emissions to ZERO.
To this end, IBERAPA will develop a switch-disconnector with earthing switch under metal enclosure, as well as its operating mechanisms, testing its different physical parameters and the application of new technology that eliminates the use of SF6 as an insulating gas, although this implies extending the insulation distances, but maintaining standardised dimensions at a general level in the external enclosure of the cubicle.
In order to obtain functional SF6-free circuit breakers, it is necessary to develop new technologies for switching and interrupting components that have recently been applied in this field. To combine these technologies, this project will develop an innovative design to adapt the internal components and the distances of the switch compartment between live parts to the new SF6-free design.

IBERAPA’s R&D department will design the necessary components and elements arranged inside the metal enclosure with simulations of the electric field with finite element software and will build several prototypes for laboratory tests to verify the results in terms of dielectric strength, insulation distances of the selected components and power tests on the finally designed switchgear.
